NEW! A Cup of Cold Water

NEW! A Cup of Cold Water

We all long to be loved, valued, and cared for. Matthew 10:42 tells us that we will be blessed by simply giving "to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water." How does this look in reality? Do you ever wonder how to reach beyond your doorstep and show compassion to those around you?

In this book, 199 women open their hearts and share beautiful ways they witnessed and experienced first-hand someone pouring and sharing a cup of cold water. Here are several excerpts:

1. Church Family

Co-compiler Jolene Burkholder writes, "I am so thankful for the connection I feel with my church sisters. Never underestimate the power of true acceptance, a smile, an honest compliment, a prayer, or a shoulder to lean on!"

Droplets of Inspiration for Church Sisters

  • Plan a lunch out with your ministry wives and a few other ladies
  • Interact with women of all ages at church
  • Talk with a sister at church if you notice her standing alone

2. New & Busy Moms

"As a mom, it feels so good to have someone care for you as you pour love and energy into your family," writes Jolene Zimmerman, co-compiler of A Cup of Cold Water. "Days, nights, and weeks tend to run into each other as you serve night and day. Just the thought that someone took the time to care can make a huge difference to a tired, discouraged mother."

Droplets of Inspiration for Moms

  • Take preschoolers of a new mom to your house for the morning so mom has time to rest and recuperate
  • Sew a few dresses for mom and/or daughters
  • Help with meals or canning

3. Schoolteachers

Jolene Burkholder recalls, "Having been a schoolteacher myself, I know what a boost a handwritten note of encouragement or thanks can be... Say it, send it, write it, message it - whatever form you choose. Just don't forget to do it!"

Droplets of Inspiration for Schoolteachers

  • Take turns packing the teacher's lunch
  • Check in with the teacher to see how your child is doing
  • Send some games for rainy or snowy day recesses

4. Special Needs & Handicapped

"I grew up with special needs cousins and volunteering at a daycare for special needs children," Jolene Zimmerman says. "It always amazes me how much the precious children can teach us... Let's not forget to recognize and love on these special children/adults and their families. Don't stare, care."

Droplets of Inspiration for Special Needs

  • Talk to the special needs child and not about them - they may understand more than you think
  • Remember that a friendly smile is understood universally
  • Take a turn to drive them to physical therapy or other appointments

5. Grief

Jolene Zimmerman shares that "this was the hardest chapter to work on, and we pushed it off to last. Grief is such a hard journey, but something we all must face at some point. We can be thankful to be surrounded and lifted by sisters in Christ in times like this."

Droplets of Inspiration for Grief

  • Share a hug
  • Be available to listen
  • If you don't know what to say, tell the person you are praying or give a card to tell them you care
